Mandatory Fire Training

The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, 1974 Health & Safety Act and the Management of Health & Safety regulation require staff to receive appropriate fire training / instruction.

An employers obligations to their staff is:

  • What hazards are present and what level of risk could they be exposed to.
  • Be repeated periodically where appropriate.
  • Be adapted to take into account of new or changed risks to health and safety of the employees concerned.
  • Be repeated periodically where appropriate.
A basic fire training package should include:
  • Theory of fire.
  • Action in the event of fire.
  • Action upon hearing a fire alarm.
  • Fire prevention.
  • Basic fire safety awareness .
Other persons who require specific training are::

Premises with a large number of occupants would require to have trained fire marshals who would oversee building evacuation, fire prevention, and carry out first aid fire fighting. It may also be necessary to nominate a senior person e.g. a safety officer or senior manager, to be responsible for all aspects of fire safety including training, overseeing fire contracts (e.g. fire equipment maintenance) and record keeping. The "senior person" would ensure fire drills and fire training is implemented at the correct intervals.

A certificated course, for all employees, where they receive expert tuition on how to reduce fires in the workplace and what their actions would be if a fire were to occur. This course complies with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Health & Safety legislation.

Fire Marshal Training

A certificated course that defines, assists and instils confidence to those people who have a key role with the management of fire safety in the workplace. This course covers both emergency and none emergency issues of this vital role. This course complies with the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005 and Health & Safety legislation.

Course Objective

By the end of this course your staff will have:

  • Understood the role of the Fire Marshal / Warden
  • Understand the importance of fire risk assessments
  • Understood the importance of regular fire drills
  • A greater awareness of the dangers of fire and smoke
  • Awareness of all fire safety measures in the workplace
  • Understanding of their actions in the event of fire
  • Confidence in identifying and operating the correct firefighting equipment
  • Awareness of potential fire hazards in the workplace

Fire drills

Fire drills are recommended to take place at least once a year and preferably once every six months. Records should be kept indicating the date, evacuation time, number of participants, etc. If shift workers are used, night drills should be held too.
