At present there a two main pieces of fire safety legislation that are in force, which affect businesses in the UK. These are:
  • 1971 Fire Precautions Act
  • The amended 1997 Fire Precautions (Workplace) Regulation
However, these are due to be revoked in April 2006 and replaced by the Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005.
