In England & Wales it is now required by law that the responsible person(s) for a building to abide by The Regulatory Reform (Fire Safety) Order 2005, plus other fire legislation to protect employees or building occupants from fire. If you are the responsible person for a building or part of an area you control, you must carry out a fire risk assessment to identify, and assess the fire hazards in your property or areas of control, and put in place measures to reduce the risk of fire.
